Dewhurst & Co help to raise £6,000 for deserving Swindon charity

This year Dewhurst & Co is celebrating 20 years as Swindon’s most trusted local estate agent. As Swindon has grown so has Dewhurst, and one of our core values is to give something back to a town that has been so good to us since we first opened our doors to vendors, landlords and house-hunters in 1996. Lending our support to local charities is one of the most effective ways of showing our gratitude.
Dewhurst’s latest fundraising efforts took place at the 4th Annual TWIGS Charity Golf Day, held at Wrag Barn Golf and Country Club in Highworth. The 18-hole event was a huge success, raising more than £6,000 for one of Dewhurst’s favourite local charities.
TWIGS Community Gardens in Cheney Manor is home to 9 beautiful green spaces in one inspiring location, among them a wildlife garden, a Japanese garden and a cottage garden. The gardens are managed by TWIGS (Therapeutic Work in Gardening in Swindon) as a resource for people with mental health problems, offering individuals the chance to regain confidence while learning new skills.
“We really admire the work that TWIGS does to foster the self-esteem of people with mental health issues and are delighted to be able to support them in any way we can,” says Mike Dewhurst (pictured right, above), director at Dewhurst & Co. “Twenty-six teams took to the greens at Wrag Barn this year and though it was a charitable event, I can tell you it was highly competitive. As a keen golfer myself, I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
Most of the competing teams came from local businesses and the eventual winners were Steptoe Electrical Contractors, whose prize was an impressive set of Titleist golf bags donated by Dewhurst & Co. “A huge thank you to Dewhurst for the prizes and a special thanks to Mike, Manda and Julie from the lettings team for all their help in making the event such a success again this year,” says TWIGS fundraiser Christopher Loveday.
“Everyone who visits the TWIGS gardens can see the therapeutic benefits that working with nature brings to people experiencing mental health problems,” concludes Mike. “This is the fourth year Dewhurst has been involved in this golf fundraiser and we’ve always managed to raise more revenue that the previous year. We are already planning a year 5 bonanza for a very deserving local cause.”
